The Registration Process — Step by Step
After your Carnet is processed, you must complete Mexico pre-registration - which includes a fee of ~$60 USD (1,020 MXN pesos). Note that the fee is not included with your Carnet on EasyCarnet.com.
1) Submit Your Carnet Details to the CANACO Portal
Once your carnet is processed, your details — equipment list, travel dates, and carnet number — are entered into the official CANACO registration portal. This formally notifies the Mexican chamber of commerce that you'll be arriving with documented equipment. On submission, a unique reference number is generated for your file.

2) You're Assigned a Reference Number
Every registration gets its own reference number — your case ID with CANACO. It ties your registration to your payment and is what customs can look up if they need to verify your status at the border.Â
3) The Registration Fee Is Paid
CANACO charges a registration fee that must be paid via wire transfer to their official bank account before your registration can be confirmed. The fee is set in Mexican Pesos (MXN) at:
 $1,020 MXN (estimated $58 USD)Â
(note that this is subject to change & wire transfer is the only accepted payment method)
(also, if you need an official invoice, IVA (Mexican VAT) applies on top of the base fee)
Note: this fee is newly added part of Mexico pre-registration as of April 16, 2026Â

4) Payment Confirmation Is Sent to CANACO
After the wire transfer clears, proof of payment is emailed directly to CANACO's official contacts along with your reference number.Â
Send email to these 2 addresses:
(with your reference number, Carnet number & proof of payment):
comint1@ccmexico.com.mx
negint@ccmexico.com.mx
(updated as of May 5, 2026)
If an invoice was requested, a Tax Status Certificate goes with it. CANACO matches the payment to your file and formally confirms your registration.
⚠️ Important — Accuracy Matters
CANACO charges a correction fee for any errors in your registration. This means the details submitted must exactly match what's on your carnet — your name, carnet number, equipment list, and travel dates. Before your registration is submitted, verify all of these carefully. Errors cause delays and additional costs that could affect your travel timeline.
5) You're Confirmed — Travel with Confidence
Once CANACO confirms the registration, you're clear to travel. Bring your reference number alongside your physical carnet. At the border, present both to customs and make sure you receive proper stamps at all four checkpoints: leaving your home country, entering Mexico, leaving Mexico, and re-entering home.

Quick Summary
- Pre-registration is mandatory. If you're processing a carnet and traveling to Mexico, you must register with CANACO before you depart — not optional, not skippable.
- A registration fee applies. It's paid by wire transfer to CANACO's official Banamex account. No other payment method is accepted.
- Accuracy is critical. Your name, carnet number, equipment, and travel dates must match exactly. Errors trigger a correction fee and can delay your registration.
- Get four stamps every trip. Leaving home, entering Mexico, leaving Mexico, re-entering home. Every single crossing. No exceptions.
- Don't pay unofficial border fees. Your registered carnet covers your equipment. Decline any informal requests firmly and politely.
- Got a CANACO notice after your trip? Don't ignore it. Reach out to your carnet processor right away.
